Made with an emphasis on both theoretical and practical applications, building the capacity for data processing and analysis through computer programs. Graduates will be skilled in data management and analysis.
Curriculum Description:
Statistics is a vital academic tool that utilizes the scientific process to derive answers from collected data, validating hypotheses and supporting research findings. Its principles and procedures are applicable across various disciplines, particularly those involving data and numbers. In today’s information age, statistics plays a crucial role in national administration and development, necessitating the development of statisticians and standardized data systems.
This program aims to equip learners with both theoretical and applied knowledge, enabling them to process and analyze data using computer programs and conduct research using a systematic scientific approach. Graduates can pursue careers in organizations as statistical data analysts, programmers, and computer system analysts, as well as work in areas such as life and general insurance that require statistical and mathematical expertise.
The curriculum covers subjects in statistical theory and applications, encompassing fundamental probability theory, mathematics and statistics, applied regression analysis, fundamental sample surveying, data analysis and processing with statistical software, fundamental experimental design, research methodology, fundamental applied data science, data management, data mining, business intelligence, time series analysis and projection, applied multivariate analysis, and fundamental statistical learning.
Additionally, students have the opportunity to choose a minor in Actuarial Science or Mathematics, Finance, and Investment. Integration of knowledge is fostered through special projects, field trips, and practical application of statistical techniques.
Internship or Co-operative Education
Students may apply for an internship with a leading government or private organization within the Faculty of Science and Technology’s network. (Internship takes place during summer of Year 3.)
Opportunities for higher education:
Graduates can further their education at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Thammasat University, or with other leading institutions’ mathematics, statistics, or computer-science programs both domestically and abroad.
Post-Graduation Career Options:
-
Surveyor and statistical data analyst
-
Planning and research analyst.
-
Programmer, Computer System Analyst
-
Life insurance and general insurance specialist
-
Educational statistician
-
Other employment that requires statistics or mathematics, such as forecasting, product quality control, etc.
